Jacqueline Center, PhD: The Promise of AI to Improve Bone Health Outcomes
A conversation on new AI software which can identify a five-fold greater rate of potential fractures.
When it comes to addressing
Because of this, fracture liaison services have been established so that patients are actively identified and treated for fractures. The process, however, is labor-intensive.
That’s were artificial intelligence (AI) can play a role. The technology has shown efficacy and accuracy in scanning radiology reports and flagging patients with a fracture more quickly than a human expert, according to recent study findings.
Specifically, a team of Australia-based investigators developed AI software which identified a near five-fold higher number of potential fractures than the manual method. The investigators aimed to use the technology to address the treatment gap for patients with osteoporosis who fracture and are not treated.
