In this week's news roundup from Rheumatology Network: This week, we published an interview with Dr. Beate Wieseler of Germany who published a systematic review and meta-analysis in BMJ that compared the effectiveness of biologic drugs used to treat rheumatoid arthritis (RA) after methotrexate fails. She reported that in most cases, there is little difference in outcomes among the biologics.

We also featured a study from the European Respiratory Journal that shows methotrexate does not increase the risk of interstitial lung disease in RA. In an interview with Rheumatology Network, the author says the findings suggest that methotrexate should not be discontinued in RA patients who have ILD (interstitial lung disease).

And, we published the latest edition of our monthly column Awkward Conversations by Dr. Kim Gorgens. This month, Dr. Gorgens focuses on managing the rheumatic disease with mental illness.

Also, we posted our bimonthly RA quiz which this time focuses on screening RA patients for cardiovascular disease.

And, in this week’s edition of our podcast, Overdrive, we published an in-depth conversation with Dr. Daniel Solomon who is editor-in-chief of Arthritis and Rheumatology.
